I just can't remember what, exactly. Let me try to piece it together.
The thing is that there hasn't been much that has coalesced into a blog. So, here's a run down of the month so far in no particular order.
3.30 It was a nice day, so Masinga and I joined up with Steve-oh and his lovely lady, Alexis for a slow ride around town. We went to Confluence for a beer.
I think this was supposed to be a sneaky picture of all something, but I can't remember what, so here's Alexis.
On the way to the Mile, Steve-Oh tried a sweet jump off some gravel (he was riding his fat bike), only to lose control and hit the dirt. He hurt his wrist, poor buddy, so we had to have the bike ambulance (The Tiger's Nissan) come and fetch him from the bar.
He charmed the waitresses into giving him a bag of ice and some ibuprofen.
We ran into my brother, then rode home with a quick stop to check out the charred remains of the Younkers building. Sad moment.
Younkers. What a mess.
3.31 I went to Cedar Rapids for a Conference. While there I tricked befriended an English teacher from Emmetsberg to put us up for Ragbrai. No one be awkward. Tony, who I chatted with for five minutes in an elevator, seems totally cool.
Who wouldn't want this face to camp in your yard?
4.4 Still working out at the YMCA with the ladies. Spotted this plaque with my friend Nile's name on it, esteemed husband of Mrs. Chris, of Ragby 2013 fame. He is a retro-ragbyier
Those hearty riders!
4.6 Took Holiday to Brown's Woods.
Camo-dog
Got ready to take a ride to Cumming. As soon as I stepped out of the garage, it started to rain. Decided to give it the old #ahfuckit and went anyway. Rode to Cumming in a bit of a drizzle, but it cleared up by the time I got down there. The trail was torn up near Cumming. Lots of mud and branches down. Tried to offer some guys a little beercouragement but it didn't take.
Mustachtastic: this guy found to Busch Lights in the dumpster and brought them to the bar to "put them back into circulation." I love Iowa.
That evening I got to have a meal with some really charming famous writers, thanks to my job, so that was awesome.
4.10 I took a personal day. Took Holiday for a walk to the coffee shop.
She doesn't understand why she is not welcome.
I spent the morning cleaning my Mad One, from Sunday's gross ride.
Dirty. And mismatched tires.
The Tiger asked why I didn't ride my bike with fenders. (I didn't want to). My rear tire was flat. I took it off to discover that the tire was a hot mess, so I rode the Mother Trucker over to Bike World for a new set of tires. It was #TrekFest so the guys at BW were frantic. Steve-Oh sold me a set of tires that "Fabian Cancellara" uses, so everyone better "watch out."
Did not buy this beaver.
4.12 First 80 degree day. I took the Mad-One up to Saylorville. I had this idea that the west side of the dam would be mountain-esque and riding up it a few times would be good training. Eh, not really. It wasn't as long or steep as I imagined. So, I turned around and rode up the infamous east side. Ugh. That. was. rough. I tried to convince myself that the first ride up that stupid hill of the year is always rough.
I rode home and lolled in the sunshine on the back deck until I went on a ride with Masinga and my sister over to 515 Brewery. On the way, we were almost blitzkrieged by a pack of teenage triathletes who were riding in a massive paceline down the bike trail (great idea). When they saw us coming, from not too far off because of all the blind turns, they all started screaming, "bike up! bike up!" After we survived that, not 100 yards we ran into the slow teenage triathletes, more "bike up! bike up!" and much more swerving.
Read this while I was lolling in the sunshine.
4.13 Tried to watch Paris-Roubaix, but couldn't get the feed to work, so I just pretended the read the newspaper and wait for the Cycling News text feed to be updated and compared that to Twitter. #itwaslikethe19thcentury
4.14 Started meditating again with Deepak and Oprah.
4.21 My friend Emily was taking her dog, Frank, up to the river with his friend Ari. Holiday and I tagged along. It was glorious. Warm and sunny and the dogs went berserk on the beach.
Holiday instigating.
In the afternoon, I went on the 3-Bs Bike Ride (beer, bikes, breaths--which everyone reads as breasts) with Masinga. Ran into the teen-triathletes again.
3-B Ride. B = bikes, B = babies, B = blue
4.20 On Saturday, the Tiger helped a friend move, for 14 hours!, so he slept in and I did some house work. Then, we went on a bike ride downtown for a little patio/beer/lunch being the parents-not-in-town-childless-heathens we are.
Tiger reading the paper at the end of our Sunday ride.
And in the mean time, I am just doing my thang, you know. Mondays the gals and I do TRX, which is so ridiculously hard I can't even explain it. Tuesdays we go to spin. Wednesdays we lift in the Soviet gym. Thursdays I should go to spin, but I usually sleep in. Fridays we do a "body weight" exercise circuit.
During the day, I am just grading papers, you know, nerding it out.
Not sure why I wasn't cast for this.
Outside the world of vague-ly fitness related news, April really has been the cruelest month, but I am looking forward to May. The end of the semester! Consistently warm weather! Maine! And hopefully some fun fitness news to report.
