Using the old gray muscle? Awesome.
I have this theory that there are four areas of a life that you have to work on in order to be personally happy.
1. Social. Good friendships, good family relationships, good romantic relationships, or not.
2. Physical. Exercise and physical activity, getting outside.
3. Professional. Liking your job, feeling meaning in your work.
4. Civic. Giving back. Volunteering, etc.
If there was a 5. it would be Spiritually happy, I suppose.
Unless you are a great multi-tasker, or you are already pretty balanced, it's hard to work on all of these areas at once. I find that sometimes I work on my professional, but my physical gets put on the back burner. For example, when I get stressed with work and I eat La Mie every day.
Since school got out, I've been working on my social happy and my physical, but I've been neglecting my professional. As a teacher, it's easy to get into the academic calendar where the work starts heavy, then tapers a bit, then builds, then builds, then freaks out, then ahh...break. Only to start all over again.
During the summer, I teach online and I am also working on some projects with our distance learning department, but because they are on the inter-web, and easy to ignore, they've been put on the back burner, a bit. I sort of just been putzing along professionally.
I am a guilty creature though. In the summer, I always feel bad about something. If I am working, I feel guilty for not riding my bike. If I am riding my bike, I feel guilty for not working. (Kelly, Steve, I know, I know, I know what you are thinking right now! I am working on this issue!)
But, not working on my business has been stressing me a little. So Monday, after a day long MESH Conference (meet, eat, share, and I can't remember what H stands for) on campus, I came home and did school work, making the conscious choice not to go to VR practice or steak night at the Front Row. I was a bit bummed for not practicing, or hanging with the ladies, but work needs to be done.
I have to remember that I can't be happy in my other quadrants unless I am also happy, or at least working on my happy, in work.
So, working on my work: 97 awesomeness points.
Doing a kick-ass presentation at the MESH without stressing about it: 187 awesomeness points.
Putting on my fancy pants and looking good at work: 36 awesomeness points.
Here is some other awesome for you.

Friday's workout
(6/1) Friday: not openly weeping during this workout: 982 awesomeness points. Seriously, 600 weighted box steps is just a mind f*ck. My right knee has decided to voice it's complaint by clicking every time I step up any step.

Just make that one small. No close ups required.
(6/2) Saturday: Tour De Pepin! 73 miles of glorious Lake Pepin, Minnesota/Wisconsin bike riding. 74 awesomeness points.
Refraigning from subtracting awesomeness points for the scary, scary way I look in those bike shorts? 17 awesomeness points.
(6/4 and 6/5) Really, really wanted to skip Ed's House of Pain. I've been feeling less than inspired by my workouts, but I didn't! I made myself go. I was glad today too because poor Miss Tracy might have been all on her lonesome without my complaining to entertain her while she did a million f*cking lunges.
